Course Description

  • Economics has been classically defined as “the study of people in the ordinary business of life"
  • The mission of the Department of Economics is to create an environment where students develop the skills and insights expected of a modern economist educated in the liberal arts tradition, and where an interaction is fostered that promotes teaching, research, and service, all in a technologically-rich environment
  • Economics at Acadia offers a range of options including both the BA and the BSc with major, double major, and honours, plus other joint programs with business and computer science
  • This course participates in Acadia’s award-winning co-operative education program through which students receive credit for paid work experience related to economics
  • The most common jobs open to students upon graduation are in banking, provincial, federal and municipal government, consulting and numerous private sector firms

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements

To be considered for admission using the IB Diploma, students need a minimum score of 24. If students have a score of 30 or higher on their IB Diploma, they will receive 30 hours of university credit. If students have completed IB courses but do not possess the diploma, they will be considered based on their coursework. Acadia gives individual credit for IB courses completed at the higher level with grades of 5, 6, or 7. IB final and predicted results may be used to consider applicants for both early fall and regular admission, as well as for an entrance scholarship.
