Course Description
- Civil Engineering is concerned with the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment
- The Civil Engineering degree program sets out to develop the scientific, technical, organizational, IT, and communication skills needed for a satisfying and rewarding career as a Civil Engineer
- The skills students will learn through this program will give them opportunities for work worldwide wherever development is taking place; not least in the fast-growing economies of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China)
- All students registering for an engineering degree at NUI Galway will be enrolled in an integrated five-year program; a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) (four years, Level 8) + a Master of Engineering (ME) (one year, Level 9). Upon successful completion of the five years of study, graduates will have the educational qualifications required for progression to Chartered Engineer
- Students on the BE+ME pathway will avail of advanced engineering modules, substantial research, and development project, and a work placement of eight months duration during the 4th Year. For students exiting with a BE, the work placement will be of four months duration after 3rd Year

Academic Requirements
A pass in at least six subjects in accordance with College requirements with at least:
- GCE Advanced Level: Grade C in two recognized subjects and
- GCSE Level: Grade C in four recognized subjects
Required GCSE subjects: English, Math, Lab Science
Grade C in A-Level Mathematics
Additional Requirements
- Originals or certified copies of school transcripts/examination certificates
- For US Applicants a standardized test score is required (SAT/ACT Scorecards)
- A copy of passport
- Personal statement (max. 800 words) outlining academic interests, sporting and/or cultural interests, and reasons for wanting to study at NUI Galway
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- IELTS or TOEFL certificate
