Course Description

• The degree involves 30 hours of course work, proficiency in a language other than English, and a considerable portfolio of academic work that includes a reflective preface that situates the work in a critical and/or historical context
  
• Plan II (non-thesis) is used by all students, as indicated below
  
• Students seeking an MA are urged to broaden their study of literature, leaving specialization for subsequent PhD research
  
• All MA students in Language and Literature must demonstrate proficiency in a second semester, second-year level undergraduate course or a graduate-level reading course in a language other than English with a grade of B or higher
  
• To complete the language skill requirement, previous institution coursework, UNM coursework, or examinations provided by UNM or CLEP may be used
