Course Description

• The Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies - Education is a four-year degree that prepares music educators with a core practice in jazz performance and composition in balance with other musical traditions
• Learners will be able to fluently perform, improvise, write, and collaborate in a range of jazz idioms, as well as communicate their musical ideas, knowledge, and experiences with others
• Students will learn to research, discuss, analyze, and notate music with complex harmonic, rhythmic, and formal characteristics, as well as remember and internalize a wide range of music for use in jazz performance and composition
• Students will not only learn to combine theoretical principles with practical performing, improvisation, and composition abilities, but they will also produce academic work that demonstrates a thorough grasp of music theory and history
• In the development of performance and writing abilities, graduates will be able to practice self-discipline and a strong work ethic ​
