Overview

Lakehead University is a public research university in Ontario, Canada. People often refer to it as LakeheadU or LU. It began its journey as a technical institute in 1946. LU's official start as a university occurred in 1965. The two campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia provide their students with a rural and suburban setting. The main campus in Thunder Bay houses about 7,900 students while the Orillia campus has about 1,400 students. These students come from both Canadian and international backgrounds. They can choose from 57 undergraduate and 30 graduate and doctoral programs. The university offers these programs through nine faculties and graduate studies, which are:

With over 30% student enrollment, the Faculty of Social Science & Humanities is the largest of the university. On the other hand, Medicine and Natural Resources Management are the two smallest departments with less than 2% enrollment each. 45,000 alumni have come out of these faculties over the years. They have made their name and earned fame through their work and achievements. The Alumni Association supports and administers the Lakehead Giving funding platform. Renowned alumni of the university include Stephen Low, Mason Ainsworth, and Jan Cameron.

LakeheadU guarantees housing facilities for all its students on its two campuses. Students residing in university residences receive an array of benefits.
