Overview

MacEwan University, also known as MU or MacEwan, is a public undergraduate university located in Edmonton’s downtown core in Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1971, the university started off as the Grant MacEwan Community College. This institute got its name from Dr. J. W. Grant MacEwan, who was an educator, author, and former lieutenant governor of Alberta. Its activities as a university began in 2009 when it became the sixth university in Alberta.

MacEwan is home to over 18,000 part- and full-time students. Students have a wide selection of programs including 32 bachelor’s degree majors, ten bachelor programs, two transfer, and one applied degree program as well as 40 diploma and certificate programs in different fields of study. These programs fall under the supervision of the following faculties and schools:

MU has two campuses to its name: the main campus of City Centre and the Alberta College Campus. These two campuses provide their students with housing facilities with an array of amenities. There are two libraries on-campus at this university: Alberta College Library and John L. Haar Library. Students living on- and off-campus can participate in a number of sports like volleyball, hockey, soccer, curling, basketball, cross-country, and golf. The university also operates multiple centres and institutes in order to facilitate research opportunities for its students. Some of these are:
