<ul><li>The MA program provides both course and thesis options; the thesis option needs extensive ethnographic research and may be finished in two years, while the course option does not require fieldwork and can be done in one year</li><li>Students are introduced to diverse case studies and encouraged to question taken for granted assumptions about the world and their place in it</li><li>Through reading, writing, watching documentary films, participating in classroom discussions and debates, students are taught to think critically and come up with innovative approaches to contemporary problems</li><li>Graduate applicants interested in research-based programs are strongly encouraged to connect with a faculty supervisor at the time of application</li><li>The research interests of faculty members are diverse and the department is capable of supervising graduate research projects in areas such as: political anthropology and the anthropology of the state; economic anthropology; social inequality; globalization; labour; migration; war and violence; social movements; gender; historical anthropology; international development; political ecology; science and technology studies; fisheries and aquaculture; extractive industries; symbolic anthropology; religion and ritual; the anthropology of art and literature; education; and tourism<br><br></li></ul>
