Overview

Mount Royal University, also known as MRU, is a public university in Calgary, Alberta. A Calgary reverend, George Kirby, was the founder of Mount Royal College. The establishment of the college in 1910 was in an effort to provide higher education to young people from rural homes in the area. This university received its university status in 2009 from the provincial government. In 2017, this university got the designation of Ashoka Changemaker Campus for excelling in the field of social innovation and change-making.

MRU currently houses about 10,487 students, among whom 1.9% and 6.1% are international and Indigenous students respectively. The university offers 12 degrees and 36 majors to its students in a wide variety of disciplines. These programs fall under the following faculties and schools:

Mount Royal has its home base in two locations: Lincoln Park, which was previously an air force base, and Springbank. These campuses provide housing facilities to nearly 1,000 students in the West and East Residences. Aside from housing, students can also access recreational and sports facilities including:

Riddell Library and Learning Centre on-campus houses 1,700 people and has 34 study rooms, 3-D printing facilities, and a cafe. Students can also focus on their careers and attend career, recruitment, and volunteer fairs. They can also find a job bank and participate in work experience programs.

Mount Royal University has educated 105,000 alumni around the globe. These alumni receive numerous benefits from the university such as access to MRU recreation, Riddell Library, and optimal therapy.
