Overview

Université Saint-Paul is a bilingual, private Catholic university based in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, Ontario. Established in 1848 by Bishop Joseph-Eugene Guigues, the university goes by Saint Paul University and SPU. It offers instruction in the country’s official languages, English and French. The institute has had affiliations with the University of Ottawa since 1965. This university is one of the oldest institutions in Ontario.

Saint Paul University currently provides education to nearly 850 students from over 25 states and seven countries. The following four faculties compose the academic structure of this university:

  • Canon Law
  • Human Sciences
  • Philosophy
  • Theology

These faculties oversee online, micro, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs that lead to degrees. The university has an internship office that facilitates the availability of internship opportunities to eligible students. Students at this university can also participate in job fairs and exchange and placement programs.

Université Saint-Paul’s main campus provides housing facilities to both its own students as well as students from some other universities. Aside from housing facilities, students can expect food, conferences, computer and distance education, human resource services, Indigenous initiatives, pastoral, and financial services. The Jeon-Leon Allie Library and Archives provides students with digital and print materials for academic and research purposes. Students residing on- and off-campus also receive facilities from:

SPU gives utmost importance to research. The university has affiliations with several research groups and laboratories including the Attention, Behaviour, and Cognitions Lab and the Research Group on Social Reconciliation, Just Peace, and Development. For the development of research, this institute also operates the following centers:

  • Centre for Research on Social Transformations and Innovations
  • Centre for Religious Education and Catechesis
  • Research Centre in Public Ethics and Governance
  • Centre for Research on Conflict
  • Lonergan Centre
  • Centre of Research Excellence in Spirituality and Psychotherapy

Saint Paul also has numerous research chairs including:

  • Research Chair for Religious History of Canada
  • Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross for Safeguarding Minors and Vulnerable Persons
  • Mercy and Presentation Sisters Chair
  • Research Chair in Clinical and Organizational Bioethics

Saint Paul University has an association for its successful network of alumni. Members of the Alumni Association at Saint Paul University enjoy the advantages offered through the Alumni Development Office. They also receive other benefits including 50% off on rent on rooms for a private event and a chance to win the Alumna/Alumnus of the Year Award.
