Overview

Based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, St. Francis Xavier University is a Canadian public undergraduate university focused on liberal arts. Established in 1853, the university is one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious universities. Although the university started its journey as Arichat College, it moved to Antigonish and changed its name to St. Francis Xavier College in 1855. In 1897, the institute became the first Catholic co-ed university to grant degrees to women in North America. Finally, in 1966, the institute gained university status. Also known as StFX University, it is also the first university in Canada to have a formal Service Learning program.

Currently, 3,895 students, including international ones, grace the halls of StFX University. These students can choose from undergraduate and graduate courses in different areas of study. The academic structure of the university falls under the following four faculties:

St. Francis Xavier University provides a plethora of facilities on its only campus. On-campus accommodation is available in twelve residence halls with traditional, hotel-, and apartment-style housing options. Students living on- and off-campus can access a pharmacy, convenience store, campus store, shuttle service, and bus depot. There are also live theatres, cafes, and child-care facilities on the premises. Recreational and athletic facilities are available through the state-of-the-art Keating Centre, the Oland Centre, a track and field complex, and recreation and intramural activities. In addition, students can join different clubs and societies and access the health and counselling center on-campus as well. The student success center is an on-campus hub for programs, workshops, tutoring, and other support to aid students in fulfilling their academic potential. Along with academic advising, students can also avail of:
