Overview

The University of Alberta, sometimes going by U of A or UAlberta, is a public research university in Edmonton, Canada. Founded in 1908, this institution started under Alexander Cameron Rutherford and Henry Marshall Tory. They were the first premier of Alberta and the university's first president respectively. Since its inception, it has grown to become one of Canada’s best comprehensive academic research universities. U of A is one of the major 5 national institutes. It is also one of the top engineering universities in Canada.

Over 40,000 students from more than 170 countries grace the genial institute each year with their attendance. Almost 9,000 of these students are international. They bring an organic blend of culture, heritage, and harmony to UAlberta. The university offers a wide variety of programs to undergraduate and graduate students. These programs are under the following 18 faculties, campuses, and schools:

The university also has two affiliated schools: St. Joseph's College and St. Stephen's College.

U of A is set across five campuses in two cities. The North Campus in Edmonton is the main one. It is home to 150 buildings and traverses 50 blocks on the bank of the North Saskatchewan River. Three other campuses are in Edmonton. The Campus Saint-Jean is a French-language campus and it is a unique jewel in the core of Edmonton’s francophone society. Enterprise Square is the downtown hub for lifetime learners and a site where entrepreneurs can transform new research into original businesses. The South Campus is an expansive land for agricultural research and home to several avocation facilities. Augustana is the only campus in a different city, Camrose. It is a celebrated campus in a lively country community that has an intimate domestic education environment.

The campuses at UAlberta provide housing and accommodation to their students. Students can live in one of 13 residence halls. Meal plans and other amenities are also available. They can also access counselling, accessibility resources, the academic success centre, the centre for writers, and student ombuds.

The University of Alberta is 81st in the world for research impact. It has 83 reports of invention. This institute is also a hub for entrepreneurship and commercialization. It has created 6 new spinoff companies and has been the home to 120+ active spinoffs.
