Overview

The University of Calgary started as the Calgary branch of the University of Canada in 1908. UCalgary became a separate, autonomous university in 1966. This is the University of Calgary that we know today. It is one of the most prominent funded research universities in Canada. Since 2017, it has had 169 research chairs in U15 and 360 innovations and inventions. This university has a research revenue that exceeds over $1.2 billion in total. The University of Calgary has 85 research institutes under its wing. The research focuses on energy innovations and engineering solutions for health. The scientists also research human dynamics in a changing world and new Earth-space technologies. The university invests in research of the brain, mental health, infections, inflammation and chronic diseases. It also specialises in child health and wellness, and universal health.

Calgary has 7.8 million items in library collections and 18 Rhodes scholars to its name. A total of 26,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 postgraduate students enrol here. 10% of the student population is made up of international students from 153 countries. Students can choose from 250 undergraduate and graduate programs. They may call any of Calgary’s 5 urban campuses their home. The main campus is in downtown Calgary and houses 11 out of its 15 faculties. The other campuses are in Downtown, Spy Hill, Foothills and Doha. The Doha Campus is in Doha, Qatar since 2007.
