Course Description

  • The BA in Journalism offers some scope for specialisation with optional modules, but every student takes the same broad range of core modules in their three years
  • An essential element of the final year of the course is an eight-week placement in a media organisation where students will trial their abilities in the working world. Every journalism student must complete a relevant work placement arranged or approved by DCU
  • Students will explore a theoretical understanding of communication, media and society while learning to engage in storytelling across multiple platforms
  • Students will benefit from production modules in social, mobile, audio, imaging and video, and participate in and contribute to the longest running undergraduate degree of its type in Ireland, with a reputation for academic and creative excellence
  • The program offers students the opportunity to learn from staff with professional experience in the fields of social, digital, broadcast and print media, academic research and teaching
