Course Description
- Contemporary Applied Art encourages fresh ideas, inventive use of materials and techniques, and offers students the opportunity to critically engage with current practice
- The course combines studio projects with practical workshop-based sessions, alongside contextual academic studies where ideas, historical reference, and making are integrated
- This is an innovative interdisciplinary program with an emphasis on three main material areas, Ceramics, Glass, and Textiles, either as a chosen specialism or in combination. It offers students the opportunity to creatively develop and make objects
- The emphasis is on an open and experimental exploration grounded in historical context and current critical debate about contemporary practice. This course offers a creative and playful approach to materials and idea development with a strong emphasis on practical skills, conceptual development and self-directed exploration
- The delivery of this course is modular and centred on ‘thinking through making’ including skills development workshops, lectures, group seminars, tutorials, peer and independent learning

Entry Requirements
Academic Requirements
A Level (+ GCSE O level) - Cambridge International
- Minimum requirements = 6 recognised subjects, including at least two A2 Level subjects (must include English)
- General Studies is not considered
- Students must present A Level C in either a Laboratory Science subject, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
- Grades in the same subject in A2 and AS Level cannot be combined
- Maximum of four A2 Level subjects will be considered
International Baccalaureate
- Minimum entry requirement = 28 points
- At least 6 subjects must be presented
- 3 Higher Level
3 Subsidiary Level
- You must have English, Mathematics + a second language with a minimum grade of 4 at Subsidiary Level
- Students will be ranked on the basis of their best six subjects from one sitting of the IB / Matriculation examination
- Maths Studies is not acceptable where a Maths requirement is indicated. Students must present Maths Methods or Mathematics with a minimum score of 5 at Higher Level
- If a Lab Science is required for a specific degree program, a minimum score of 5 at Higher Level is required in a Lab Science
