Overview
Pacific University is a private institution located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The original Forest Grove campus, founded in 1849 as the Tualatin Academy, is located 23 miles (37 kilometers) west of Portland. The institution includes three more sites in Eugene, Hillsboro, and Woodburn, and has over 4,000 students enrolled. Despite being formed by the United Church of Christ (UCC), it has long been self-sufficient. Pacific is also the only federally recognized Asian Pacific Islander Serving Institution in Oregon
Pacific has several colleges, including:
- College of Optometry
- College of Health Professions
- College of Education
- College of Business
- College of Arts & Sciences
The majority of students are undergraduates, with the rest being postgraduate and professional students. The College of Optometry is one of 21 schools in the United State that provide a PhD degree in optometry. Students achieve more socioeconomic advancement as a result of their education. Pacific is happy to be a location where many perspectives and ideas have a great value. A place where students may thrive, challenged by exceptional academics and a strong liberal arts heritage, supported by the community, and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
The Pacific Index, a student-written and produced newspaper at the institution, was first published in 1893. Pacific students can join and take part in a variety of on-campus clubs and organizations. Intramural athletics, forensics, student government, and Greek life, as well as outdoor excursions, are all available. Clubs include the Exercise Science Club, the Mathematics Club, the Philosophy Club, the Japan Club, the PDA (Animal Ethics), and the Hip Hop Club.
Pacific University's athletic teams take part in NCAA Division III as members of the Northwest Conference. Pacific, in fact, was a founding member of the conference in 1926. Baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, wrestling, and lacrosse are among the sports available to students.
