Overview
The University of Kentucky (UK) is a public university founded in the city of Lexington, Kentucky . UK is a public land-grant research university. Bryan Bowman established the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky in 1865. Today UK is a major public university with around 20,000 students. The university is one of two land-grant universities in the state.
UK is divided into three campuses: north, south, and central. It houses student housing, academic and administrative buildings, and athletic facilities. In addition, the institution has 15 libraries spread among its campuses, as well as an art museum, football stadium, and botanical gardens.
UK is Kentucky's biggest university, with 16 colleges and a graduate school. These institutions provide around 90 undergraduate programs, roughly 100 master's degrees, and 66 doctorate programs. The United Kingdom is quickly increasing its foreign student population, with over 120 nations represented among its student body. The SEC Academic Consortium includes the University of Kentucky. The program, now called the SECU, was a joint effort meant to foster research, scholarship, and success among Southeastern Conference member universities (SEC). The SECU created its purpose to support the joint academic activities of SEC colleges. With a tough admissions procedure, the University of Kentucky aspires for a diverse and international student population.
The institution has a strong sports tradition, with 'The Wildcats' competing in men's and women's basketball, American football, and baseball. Kentucky Wildcats became the first collegiate basketball team to win 2000 wins in 2009.
