Overview

Flint, Michigan is home to the University of Michigan–Flint (UM-Flint). It is one of the University of Michigan's two satellite campuses. Dearborn is home to the other satellite campus. From 1956 until 1971, it was known as Flint College. It was thereafter renamed the University of Michigan-Flint.

The University of Michigan-Flint is one of the state's five doctoral/professional universities. There are 138 majors/concentrations available for 12 Bachelor's degrees and 43 graduate degrees. Graduate degrees are also available at UM-Flint, with 15 master's degree programs and 12 doctorate degree/specialist programs. Anthropology, environmental science and sustainability, marketing, music performance, social sciences, and theatrical studies are among the degrees available.

There are approximately 100 registered student groups, as well as eight Sponsored Student Organizations (SSOs). They include organizations for honors, club sports, social fraternities and sororities, service clubs, and particular hobbies, as well as organizations for diverse academic areas, faiths, and cultural backgrounds. Students can use a variety of facilities on both campuses. This includes the university's enormous library systems, galleries, and main campus athletic events. On campus, the media has a huge presence. The Michigan Times is a student-run school newspaper that won nine honors in the Michigan Press Association's Better College Newspaper Contest in 2008.

UM–F does not now provide varsity intercollegiate athletics, however sport is a major priority on campus. On campus, there are clubs in which students can take part. Wrestling, golf, hockey, frisbee, soccer, volleyball, tennis, cheerleading, lacrosse, and football are some of the sports available.

Six schools oversee 100 programs at undergraduate level and 60 taught postgraduate programs. These are:

  • The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
  • College of Health Sciences (CHS)
  • School of Education & Human Services (SEHS)
  • School of Management (SOM)
  • School of Nursing (SON) and
  • College of Innovation and Technology (CIT)
