Overview

Huron University College was established on May 5, 1863 and is the founding college of Western University. It was founded by Bishop Benjamin Cronyn. Originally known as Huron College, it received Royal Assent in June 2000 and changed its name to Huron University College. Rough Park was Huron's original location, surrounded by Grosvenor, St. George, St. James Street, and the Thames River. With 13 students and two lecturers, including Huron's first Principal, Bishop Isaac Hellmuth, classes began on January 9, 1864.

Huron is committed to remaining unique and preserving the institution's reputation. For a variety of reasons, the university maintains high admission criteria, but the primary goal is to ensure that the students receive the personalized support they require from professors who are capable of providing it. While other colleges accept thousands of students each year, Huron keeps its new class to roughly 500. Because of its small class sizes, students receive one-on-one attention and guidance from the professor who themselves designed the course.

Every student is guaranteed a paid internship, allowing them to integrate their classroom learning with real-world experience while also earning money.

Huron University College offers a variety of courses across the broad categories of:

  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • History
  • Economics
  • English
  • Global Studies
  • Philosophy
  • Management and Organizational Studies
  • Religion and Theology
  • Governance, Leadership and Ethics
  • French Studies
  • Jewish Studies

Huron University College’s Partnership with IVEY Business School allows the students the chance to study at IVEY which is the first and most prestigious school . Students apply to Ivey’s Honours Business Administration (HBA) program after two years of studying at the university. Based on a 95% reporting rate, 93% of people seeking jobs received an offer while having a CAD 79,191 average salary.

Huron students are enrolled in a Harvard cohort after being accepted by the Career Development Team at Huron, where they will interact with their classmates in virtual classrooms, exactly as they would in a small class on campus.

In every field, Huron's alumni network contains world-renowned professionals whom the students can learn from, network with, and aspire to be like. Huron alumni work in business, government, technology, law, international affairs, and more in 59 countries across the world.

Huron's resident life is distinct in that the living environment is closely linked to the academic environment. The outcome is a “home away from home” atmosphere centered on academic success. About 70% of first-year students choose to live on campus. Huron offers daily parking in their Pay & Display lot as well as permit parking in their gated lot.
