Overview
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) was established in 2002 after the Legislative Assembly of Ontario passed Bill 109 (the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Act, 2002). Later, the university was renamed “Ontario Tech University.” Graduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as research opportunities, are available at Ontario Tech. Today, there are over 10,000 students enrolled.
The North campus, which is located at 2000 Simcoe Street North, is the main campus. The Downtown campus is about 10 minutes away from the North campus and is located in Oshawa's downtown area. This downtown campus has the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) and the Faculty of Education.
Admission to Ontario Tech University is quite selective. Year to year, the particular average or standing required for admission changes. Students are chosen based on a variety of factors, including their school grades, topic distribution, and performance in courses relevant to the academic program. Acceptance is not guaranteed if the students meet the basic requirements only.

Ontario Tech University and Ontario Power Generation teamed up to design and manufacture Health Canada-approved face shields for front-line health care workers. The university's ACE Wind Tunnel team and the OPG X-Labs team used 3D printers to supply vital face shields to the Ministry of Health of Ontario for distribution to healthcare facilities across the province.
The Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association carefully selected Ontario Tech University as the lead academic institution for Phase 2 of Project Arrow, the country's vision to produce an all-Canadian made zero-emissions alternative-fuel vehicle by 2022: a car with connected and autonomous technology and the latest in propulsion technology.
As the first university in the province to work with Microsoft Canada on this new program, Ontario Tech University is also providing students with in-demand essential digital skills and cloud certifications. Microsoft's Canada Skills Program, which began in September 2020, allows students to graduate with both a Microsoft certification and an Ontario Tech credential. Ontario Tech is one of 12 Canadian post-secondary institutions that have joined the initiative to help students in degree, diploma, and continuing education programs to find work.
